墨客居的中心不是電視，是一張長桌。

木頭一整塊，長到可以吃飯、泡茶、攤開一張圖。椅子沿著它排，誰來都有位子。

天花用深色木條排成格柵，光從縫裡篩下來落在桌面；背後那面牆留白。

家裡最該被擦亮的，是那張大家會圍過來的桌子。

In 墨客居 the centre of the house is a table, not a television.

One slab of timber, long enough to eat at, make tea on, and open a drawing across. The chairs run along it; whoever arrives has a seat.

Dark battens form the ceiling and the light comes through the gaps onto the tabletop. The wall behind is left blank, kept for a scroll.

The surface most worth polishing in a house is the one people gather around.
